This is  the story of Bea and her memories of working on a thoroughbred racetrack for 20 years.

8 of them on the backstretch with the horses. 12 in the grandstand restaurants with the two-legged.

It describes how she got there and why she left.

It was frustrating work. Backbreaking, heartbreaking, and addicting that she found a way to navigate with determination, irreverence, and humor.

About Me

Deborah Durkin is a writer today. Yesterday's saw me waiting tables, selling musical instruments, and working with racehorses. A lover of animals. Vegan to a fault in their defense. A mother, grand and great.

You Wanna Bet, is a book I've written about the experience working on a Thoroughbred race track. 8 years with the horses on the back stretch, and another 12 in the racetracks grandstand restaurants.

I'm currently working on The Book Of Deborah, a blog, which explores speciesism, religious texts, humanity, and anything that itches me deep in the cracks.

I have an advanced degree in surviving the "School of Life."

I'm a thoughtful starter, tireless worker, and magnificent finisher thanks to a loving and faithful family who have endured, inspired, and promoted my life.
